Matrix and Plato

Is the test tube area based off the allegory of the caves?

  1. It definitely could be. Like the person being brought out from the darkness into the light, Neo is pulled out from the billions of other people who are trapped in the cave-like area in those weird wombs.

  2. This is an interesting question. I'm not sure that Neo has developed new like the inhabitants of Plato's cave but he is definitely seeing reality much more clearly. The humans who have realized the truth of the matrix do return to the metaphorical cave to free their brethren.

  3. That actually exactly what I thought when I first saw it. It seemed to be full of every person from the "fake" world but only those aware (like Neo) what was out there could go to the Matrix.

  4. I think it is definitely based on the allegory of the cave. The matrix is the equivalent of the cave, and Neo & all the people around him are convinced it is real. Then he is brought out of the matrix and realizes that he had not been living in the real world.

When he was dumped into the water and the crane picked him up he was literally plunged up towards a square of light. A little bit of cinematography symbolism there.

  5. By Joe i think Hes on to something. Thats seems just like the Cave Allegory. In the way that it has someone being brought into the "light" of reality. But what has seemed to be reality has been just a dream for Neo.

  6. I agree with most of these responses in that Neo could be the man in the cave. He is removed from the cave into the real world which opens his eyes to new world.

  7. Definitely. It's just like the cave, but without as many flaws
